Lumpectomies are becoming more common, along with that is the need for balance breast forms. This surgery is much better for the patient and is much less traumatic than a radical mastectomy. The first obvious benefit is the woman’s breast or breast’s are not totally removed. Obviously it depends on the breast cancer whether this less radical surgery is an option.
A balance breast form is a smaller breast form in various shapes and sizes to give women after a lumpectomy two breasts that are evenly sized. As the name suggests the idea is to balance the two breasts. No one wants to have their breasts two different sizes, it is noticeable when you are dressed. After all the surgery and cancer treatment you have been through you want to feel good about how you look.
We are finding that most women who have had a lumpectomy don’t know that balance breast forms are available, that there are many shapes and sizes, that are suitable for all the different surgeries performed. The partial breast form can be inserted into a mastectomy bra, a bra that is pocketed or in some cases it can be placed between a bra and your skin and will sit firmly. There is also a contact partial breast form that adhere’s to the skin.
A lot of ladies don’t realise there is a government rebate. When you have been through breast surgery, chemo and possibly radio therapy it’s good to know the health system will support you with a rebate for your breast form. Every two years $400 per breast is claimable through Medicare. The best quality breast forms are in this price range with the most expensive being just over $400, so you do not need to be out of pocket.
Some private health insurers give a rebate for bras and breast forms, they are all different so that is something you need to check with your insurer.
